At Perfect Smile Spa, Dr Jas and our hygiene team focus on managing gum disease (periodontitis), which affects the structures supporting your teeth. We begin by measuring your gum health through pocket checks, gently assessing the depth of the spaces between your teeth and gums. Healthy pockets are shallow, but if they measure deeper, it may indicate gum disease requiring periodontal treatment.
By seeing your hygienist in Essex at Perfect Smile Spa regularly, we can remove plaque and tartar, reducing the bacteria that cause gum inflammation and infection. Frequent hygiene visits can prevent gum disease from progressing to the stage where you need extensive periodontal treatment, helping you maintain your gum and bone health.
If your gum disease has progressed further, Dr Jas may recommend periodontal treatment with root planing performed by our hygienist. This involves deeply cleaning the tooth roots to remove bacteria and tartar below the gum line. We may also use a course of antibiotics placed directly into the gums to help reduce infection and inflammation.
Four weeks after your last periodontal treatment, Dr Jas will review your gum health, checking your pocket depths again to ensure your gums are healing and stable. If there is still evidence of active periodontal disease, we can refer you to a periodontist for more advanced care, which may involve more invasive periodontal treatment to stabilise your gum health further.
By acting early and attending regular hygiene appointments at Perfect Smile Spa, you can often avoid extensive periodontal treatment, keeping your gums and teeth healthy, comfortable, and stable for years to come.
